How I maintain a positive attitude!

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “ignorance is bliss”... And it’s usually used with a negative connotation in mind, but I use this mentality towards only the bad energy and negativity weighing on my mind. I don’t give it the time of day. I experience a situation or a feeling and then make a conscious decision to fully leave it in the past and not let it affect me or my attitude moving forward.
Now this isn’t necessarily the right way to deal with the situations going on in your own life but using this mentality has allowed me to keep strictly positivity pumping through my veins and a smile on my face day after day.
So maybe it will work for you.

Yup! Failure is not an option. For me, getting down and depressed about a situation is counterproductive. All it would accomplish is to make everyone around me upset as well and no good can come from that. One of my life philosophies is "There are no roadblocks in life, merely obstacles to negotiate." I know it won't work for everyone but, it works for me. I also like "If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong."

I couldn't agree more with you @cruiseybabbby. I second that! @jaarch Giving up was never an option for me. I do not give the negativity in my life any of my time. I have even had to cut out negative people because they were not helping me in a good way. I try to look at all the positive aspects in my life and all of the opportunities that have happened because of my SCI. I like to believe in the "Law of Attraction" and only put out positive vibes into the universe. You are going to attract whatever you are believing and thinking about (good or bad). Life is full of ups and downs, but in my experience the positives outweigh the negatives.Accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in what will be. -SONIA RICOTTI

@Zcollie YES! Hell of a mentality!

For my son it was getting back to doing the things he enjoyed doing before the SCI. After his SCI for months he was severely depressed, at one point even saying he wanted to die (this was at time when the pain still ruled his daily life, getting his pain under control was one of our first goals.) Being able to do many of the things he did before went along way toward helping him mentally, emotionally and even physically. Staying positive isn't just a mind-set for him, it's a daily life sort of thing, accepting that there are going to be good days and bad days, things he can do and things he won't be able to do. (As his mother and care-giver to me staying positive for his sake is a must! I have days when I cry, days when I want to curl up in a ball and scream but I have to push all that down, smile and keep moving forward.) We have to keep reminding ourselves : Things aren't bad, they're just different.

@Monica.T as someone that lives with a lot of pain. I’ve learned the best way to endure the pain is to remain active. Once I became I active my mindset was much more positive and the pain went to the back of my mind!

@Monica.T Yes ma'am! Not bad, just different! The navigation of this "new life" and how to live it is an art and a beautiful thing in itself if you allow yourself to see it!
